Hi! I'm Ty. I am a 4 year old Silver Weim. I am about 75 lbs. I am good with other dogs, sometimes I can be bossy, but I' have never bit or attacked another dog.
My blogger has fallen in love with me. She said if she didn't have a houseful I could move right in!
So, here is my story. I was very abused until I was 9 months old, then my luck changed. Great Lakes Weim Rescue took me in. I was adopted and my family took great care of me, they worked very hard with me to over come my past. So why am I back? Well, they loved me and it broke their heart to let me go.
It seems they thought I was a little over protective with them and their kids. Don't miss understand, I love kids, no I adore kids. I was very protective of my yard, I would bark and snarl at anyone who passed by.
In a new owner this is what I will need. First the "Nothing is Free" method* would work great. An experienced Weim owner would be great! Of course I need all the love and cuddles like any other dog, and do I love to cuddle! I just need to know you are the boss and I am not.
So, what is the Nothing is Free Method? It is a positive way to show me you are the boss. And since I am a very smart boy I should pick up quick. We could practice together! Here is an example: When it is time for me to eat fill my bowl. Place it on the counter and ask me to sit, give me a handful of food, from your hand. This does take a little time, but most dogs pick up quick.
When it is time for treats make me sit and wait. If I am playing with a toy take it, make me sit or make me lay down or give paw then give it back to me.
This usually works pretty quickly. And if a dominate dog falls off the wagon start over and usually they learn quickly again you are the boss.
A house in a rural area or country would be best. A busy sub-division or town house could cause me to be over stimulated.
So, that is my story.
Check back soon for more updates,
Ty
